A charming, humorous French illustration on card, inspired by the distinctive style of Germaine Bouret (1907–1953), one of France’s best-known illustrators of childhood. Bouret’s highly collectible postcards, popular throughout the 1930s, 1940s and 1950s, are celebrated for their playful depictions of children and everyday mischief.

This illustration imitates the spirit of Bouret’s work, with a playful caption that reads:

« Regarde comme j’suis sage : ma maman m’a dit d’économiser mes souliers ! »

Translated as: “Look how well-behaved I am: my mum told me to save my shoes!”

The image is humorously signed “Bernet”, adding to the playful nature of this imitation.

Material: Print on card, glass-fronted

Dimensions: 19 × 12.5 cm
