A playful French illustration on card, inspired by the work of Germaine Bouret (1907–1953), whose distinctive illustrations of childhood became a familiar feature of French postcard culture during the mid-twentieth century. Her work remains popular with vintage postcard collectors for its humour and affectionate portrayal of childhood.
Imitating Bouret’s lighthearted style, this illustration features the amusing caption:
« Bizarre, même avec des lunettes, j’peux pas lire… »
Translated as: “Funny, even with glasses I can’t read…”
The print is humorously signed “Bernet”, presenting a playful take on the style of classic French illustrated postcards.
Medium: Print on card, glass-fronted
Dimensions: 19 × 12.5 cm
